To me, the Chancellor’s Leadership Development Program is an opportunity for incoming college freshmen to grasp just how much of an impact they can have in their classes,in their homes, in the workplace, in their friend groups, and in their community. I believe one of the biggest struggles rising college freshmen face is the uncertainty of what the college experience holds for them. Just a few months ago, they were the seniors of their high schools; now they are back at the bottom of the barrel, so to speak. I believe this misconception can cause many freshmen to try anything that might draw attention to themselves or “go against the crowd,” causing them to forfeit so many opportunities presented to them. However, the Chancellor’s Leadership Development Program pushes freshmen to step outside their comfort zones and encourages them to not wait until their junior or senior year to make an impact on the community around them. The program helps to provide students the answers to questions they would very likely ask some time throughout their time here at NC State. Whether it be how to compose yourself during an interview, learning about study abroad opportunities, managing finances, or what ways you can leave your mark on NC State. This program sees time as a virtue, and refuses to let young leaders from forfeiting opportunities just because they feel they are too young to make an impact. To me, the Chancellor’s Leadership Program allows students in the program get a jump start on all their goals and aspirations by giving them the confidence they need to seize the day and make a difference in the world around them.
